Well, we survived. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!
Turns out the eye of Rita passed just to the east of us, which put us on the calmer side. Even so, we lost a few trees, and the power and water and phone services were knocked out. However, the house is fine, and all guitar wood intact. The phone is back up (obviously), but no power. That's right, I'm typing this by candlelight.    No actually, we've been nursing along an ailing generator which is running at the moment, so I thought I'd report in while I could.

I've missed you guys--but you know what? There's something nice about a dark, quiet evening with no pressures and little to do but read. Haven't obsessed about guitar building for days! Maybe Don should come over here and relax for a while?

Now the guys east of us just a bit need our prayers. Some places were absolutely smashed. I really feel for them, as well as the Katrina evacuees that were here...having to go through it all over again.

Hope to talk to you soon,
Steve

I have been wondering about you all week. Glad you are fine. A few hours in storm like that can put a whole new perspective on things. Hua Bud I still remember, We were in Jacsonville N.C. when Hugo ran through. it was heading south of Wilmington til the last 2 hrs before land fall then moved north east like this one, and hit right in between Jacksonvill and Wilmington. Jacksonvill was lucky. the east side of the storm hit her but it lost a good bit of punch over the outer banks. But boy did the outer banks pay the price. I don't ever want to do that again.

Steve,

Good to hear you and your guitar wood made it through. I was expecting you to have some flooding up there.

Apparently nothing happened to Houston, aside from food and gas shortages, which are pretty much over with.

Glad you got the generator running. I hope you can get all your computer surfing done before you run out of gas.

You should be able to sell some guitars to those poor folks that are parked on highway 59. You could go door to door so to speak.

Or, or, give one away with the purchase of 5 gallons of gas.

Thanks for the kind remarks guys.

Michael Mc--you online? How did your patchwork windows hold up?

Turns out that the eye passed right over Dale M's house-- he says it looks like a war zone out there.Steve Kinnaird38622.8862037037

My "cubist art" patchwork window came through fine. It was pretty much a non-event here in Houston -- as long as you stayed off the freeways, that is. :) Glad to hear you made it through without too much difficulty, and I hope your power comes back. Dunno about high temps up your way, but down here in Houston, it's been over 100F for the past several days. I wouldn't want to be without A/C right about now.

Hope Dale made it through OK.

Best,

Michael

Glad you all made it thru Rita unscathed or semi-unscathed I guess.I sure am getting tired of all the hurricanes the last few years here in Florida.

Thanks again guys for the well-wishes. Michael, we've had record breaking temps the last few days, all with no power, thus no A/C. What a time, huh? Yes, Dale is ok. Except for all the downed trees on his lot. He's waiting for much cooler temps before he tackles that job, though.

Bob- Ol' Smokey is pointed outside alright. I bet the neighbors just love it--it's the loudest 10 hp engine I've ever heard.

Walter--Move west? What? And leave all this?

Steve

Glad to hear your damages were not as severe as they could have been. Hope you know we all wish well for you and the others.
